Kyrie Irving trade talks remain quiet

Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman continues to have fluid trade talks involving all star point guard Kyrie Irving with multiple NBA teams on a daily basis.  To this point he and Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert have yet to receive an offer that interests them.  Most of the initial offers received from other teams have been lowball offers in an attempt to “get one over” on the rookie general manager.  Koby Altman has proven to be smarter than this and will continue to hold out for the best deal possible that will help keep the Cavs a championship contender.  Altman is currently attending the NBA/FIBA Basketball without Borders in Tel Aviv, Israel with other NBA executives.

There was a national report that came out today stating the Cavaliers have changed their focus towards the future with the thinking that Lebron James will leave in free agency after this season.  The report notes that Cleveland is looking for a young rising star in the mold of Kristaps Porzingis of the Knicks, Josh Jackson of Phoenix, Jason Tatum of the Celtics or Jamaal Murray of the Nuggets.  Sam Amico of Amico Hoops refuted this belief in his weekly mailbag calling it national media noise.  Lebron has been more active than ever this offseason in assisting the front office in recruiting players to Cleveland.  He was instrumental in the Cavaliers signing free agents Jeff Green and Derrick Rose.  Amico notes that most people around the NBA will tell you that James is acting fully committed to Cleveland and those close to him say James plans are centered on remaining with the Cavaliers.  Lebron would love nothing more than to continue his consecutive NBA Finals streak and there is no better place to do that than Cleveland.  Joining the Lakers or another Western Conference team not named Golden State will not accomplish this.

The trade talks for Kyrie Irving are expected to carry on into September.
NBA training camps open in late September so a deal will most likely be complete sometime before then.  The trade offers from other teams are expected to improve as camp nears.  Most around the NBA believe Irving will ultimately be shipped to the Phoenix Suns as they have the necessary assets the Cavs seek.  The Suns have been reluctant to include #4 pick Josh Jackson out of Kansas in the Irving deal.  The belief is that as this drags on into September that the Suns will eventually give in and offer Jackson in the package along with Eric Bledsoe and a first round pick for Irving.  Only time will tell.
